Background:
With so much negativity filling mainstream media these days, it has everyone’s emotions running high. The world we live in can be such a harsh place and even though progress has been made we are still inundated with stories of inequality and injustice on an all too frequent basis. Racial inequality and mass incarceration are something that has plagued our culture for many decades. The number of people facing racism and police brutality have not increased, it's just filmed and shared more thanks to social media. Music has always been a form of therapy and an amazing creative outlet. We have created a platform for artists to share their work with you all, the fans.
“A riot is the language of the unheard.”- Martin Luther King Jr. All the looting and rioting across the US is a clear result of not being heard. Taking a knee during the national anthem or peaceful protests have not received the attention needed to invoke change. As African Americans in the United States a normal traffic ticket (#SandraBland), a walk from the corner store to get skittles (#TravonMartin), lawfully carrying a weapon (#PhilandoCastile) or even sitting in your own home (#BothamJean) could drastically change your life. Instead of burning down the country, how about we turn up the volume by voting and communicating our perspective.
This showcase is all about injustice and the raw emotions we might all be feeling during these trying times. Just as the power of change starts with our community standing up and speaking out against injustice, you have the power in your hands now to help shape the culture. By voting ,you let artists know you hear what they are saying. Your vote is an opportunity to show support and unify as a whole community! .
How it works:
If more than 50 artists sign up, the competition will go in rounds and each submission will need four votes in order to move to the next round. Once the submissions are narrowed down to less than 50, the remaining artists will compete head-to-head for maximum exposure. The final round will last for three weeks. Artists are randomly selected and matched so that no one has an advantage, and the submission with the most votes will win! You can follow individual competitions and be notified when the competition begins and when voting opens for each round.
Shape the Culture:
No longer will someone else dictate who you listen to or who should get spins. By giving everyone an equal opportunity to be seen and heard, and then advancing the winners, you are telling labels and radio stations what’s hot. Your vote will dictate the trends and determine which artists deserve more exposure. And with that simple vote, you are shaping the culture!

Background:
In the past 50 years that hip hop has been around there has always been a theme of artists putting on for their city. At One City Ent, we represent all artists worldwide. In music, location has always been referred to with a sense of pride, harmonized and rapped over tantilizing 808's and chords. Some songs talk about putting on for a city, some for a state or a country. There have even been songs more specific putting on a neighborhood, complex or zone of a city. This is one part of the culture that brings a lot of pride and emotion to a track.
For this competition we chose to work with the talented Mulatto. Mulatto has been rapping since the age of 10 and has a lot of early accomplishments, including winning Jermaine Dupri's TV show The Rap Game. One of the first challenges on the show was to write a song about Atlanta, and Mulatto did perfect on that challenge - she’s always been putting on for her city. Recently she dropped a project called Big Latto, which had two songs with location-based pride rhythms, “ATL Hoe” and “Bitch From da Souf.”
Mulatto is a great example of remembering where you came from. Where you’re from shapes your thought process and outlook on the world. There's a saying of being a product of your environment and sometimes that's used in a negative context to say why people do what they do. No matter where you’re from, you have experienced ups and downs. With those downs it creates pressure and sometimes pressure bursts pipes, but sometimes pressure makes diamonds. We are counting on your vote to help us decide who puts on the best!

There is nothing more important in music culture then the belief in yourself. In recent years there has been debates on who is king of a genre or who is a king in general, who is the greatest of all time but it all starts with self promotion. If you don't have that confidence, not arrogance but that supreme confidence then this competition is not for you.
This competition we are excited to work with Money Bag Ty from Unify or Die Records as he just released his Album "Mind Worth A Mil". Money Bag Ty's unique rhyme scheme and voice blend with tracks and his lyrical patterns that ride the beat like a roller coaster 🎢. One of the leading singles off the album is called greatness where he speaks all of his future success in to existence. You can listen to his track here to see what he did to understand what we are looking for.
For this competition we want to see who feels like they are destined for greatness. Unify or Die records put out a mixtape series "Steel Sharpens Steel", and it is something they wholeheartedly believe in and they want to identify some of the best artists from around the world. It's not about records sales its not about budget, it's about what's inside being brought out and it will be up to you to decide.
